How a Ductless System Can Help You Save
A ductless or mini-split HVAC system can help you save energy, lower your power bills, and keep your Fairfax, Virginia, home comfortable. Like central heating and air conditioning systems, ductless HVAC systems have an outdoor unit and one or more indoor air-handling units. Instead of ductwork, a small conduit connects them. Ductless systems are more efficient and easier to install and maintain than central HVAC systems. Here’s how a ductless system can help you save.
Easy Installation
A central air conditioning system usually takes about a week to install, but most contractors can set up a ductless system in only a day or two. The conduit between the outdoor and indoor units only requires a three-inch hole for the refrigerant line, suction tubing, power cable, and condensate drain. In some homes, custom-made ducts are necessary, and they take up valuable space in attics, basements, and closets. Drilling a hole is a lot simpler than building ductwork. The work involved in setting up central air conditioning makes an upgrade to a ductless system the more affordable option.
Less Maintenance
With a ductless system, you won’t have to pay for duct cleaning, sealing leaks, or adding insulation to ducts. If you upgrade to a ductless system, you won’t have to worry about remodeling to accommodate ductwork. Your contractor will determine the best way to seal off ducted areas so there is no energy waste.
Lower Utility Bills
One ductless system can use up to eight indoor air handling units. This makes zoning — assigning different temperatures for different areas or zones easy. With zoning you can avoid conditioning empty spaces, and family members can choose the temperature that makes them comfortable. Ductless systems cost more at first, but they’re less expensive over time because of their high efficiency, as well as their low installation and maintenance costs.
