Get Your Kids Involved With Saving Energy at Home
There are many things that can impact your electric bill, including how your kids use electricity. It’s never too early to get your kids interested in doing their part to save energy in your Dumfries, Virginia, home. Here are some tips to help get your kids excited about reducing the amount of energy they use daily.
Turn It Off
Kids and adults are both guilty of leaving on lights and electronics when they’re not using them. Make it a game that everyone turns off their electronics when they leave the room. When someone forgets to turn the light off or abandons electronics that are still on, they get a point. The person that has the fewest points for the week receives a reward. For instance, they get to pick the movie for family movie night.
Show and Tell
Sometimes, telling your kids that energy is expensive and wasting electricity is like throwing money away doesn’t really connect for them. It can be helpful to show your kids the electric bill to let them see how expensive it is to waste energy. You can even create a game where they get a share of the savings if they do their part to help reduce the bill.
Get Help
Many kids love being able to do adult-like activities. It can give them a sense of pride and accomplishment. Have them help you when you’re doing simple home maintenance tasks, such as changing filters or vacuuming the vents in your house. They get to help while learning why these tasks are essential to help save energy.
Learning Fun
Another fun way to teach your kids about saving energy at home is to read together. Find books that discuss topics like your carbon footprint and other relevant issues to share with your kids. You’ll get a chance to spend quality time together while learning about being more energy-efficient.
Saving energy can be a fun family activity. Looking for ways that you can further reduce your electricity bills? Call Brennan’s Heating & Air Conditioning at 703-783-0145 to discuss energy-saving options available to you.
