3 AC Upgrades to Help You Save
If your HVAC system is close to ten years old, it will likely need frequent repairs, and you are also likely to see higher utility bills. An upgrade could make your Springfield, Virginia, home more comfortable and efficient. The right upgrade can even increase your indoor air quality and reduce noise from your air conditioner. Upgrade and save money and energy with a programmable thermostat, a variable-speed fan, or a ductless HVAC system.
Programmable Thermostats
With a programmable thermostat you can save energy by programming temperatures according to your activities. You can set particular temperatures based on your sleep and work schedules and then change them for ideal settings when you wake up or return home. Many models can also control multiple zones, so you never waste energy cooling an empty room. You can use your smartphone to communicate wirelessly with some programmable thermostats. Reminders to change your air filter, humidity monitors, color touchscreens, low battery indicators, and keypad locks for children are also available.
Variable-Speed Air Handlers
Variable-speed air handlers use motors that can change speeds to adjust to your cooling needs instead of simply turning on or off. They save energy while maintaining a more constant temperature. These quiet systems efficiently regulate cooling cycles, so you have more control over indoor humidity. Standard air handlers can make rooms too cold, and then let them get too hot before they start again. Add a ductless variable-speed system for even more energy efficiency.
Ductless HVAC Systems
Ductless or mini-split HVAC systems have an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units. A small conduit, only about three inches wide goes through your walls to connect them. Ductless systems are much more efficient since you won’t have to worry about leaks in the ductwork. They are quieter than standard systems, and having separate indoor units makes controlling different temperature zones easy. When you upgrade, your technician will determine the best way to incorporate your existing system.
